PRESIDIO: LAKE STREET

Reimagining a historically significant home and connecting it to a major 3-story addition in San Francisco is not an easy task. Originally rural pastures and sand dunes, San Francisco’s Lake District is a symbol of the 'Garden Community' development popular at the beginning of the 20th century. The existing three-story home, eligible to be included in the California Register of Historic places, retains its original integrity at its exterior with minimal alterations. The addition, designed to provide much needed living space, was placed between the existing historic residence and an existing detached garage. The marriage ensures continuity in style and setting with the neighborhood's architectural heritage while enhancing livability for a large growing family.
