Mark Thomas Architects (MTA), formerly Hood Thomas Architects, is a long standing multi-disciplinary architectural firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We specialize in well-designed residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces stretching from San Francisco’s urban core to the expansive mountain landscapes of Lake Tahoe. We have a rich history of pioneering designs that evoke comfortable modern living rooted in environmentally responsible principles and practices.
With over three decades of experience, our team at MTA is dedicated to meticulous planning and execution throughout all phases of concept development, design, entitlements, and construction. Mark Thomas
Mark Thomas, Architect, AIA, LEED AP serves as the Principal Architect where he oversees client relationships and provides leadership to project teams. With over three decades of experience as a licensed architect in San Francisco, Mark is well-versed in the diverse project types characteristic of the Bay Area and California. He earned his degree in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and is renowned for his commitment to sustainability, having pioneered the development of San Francisco's first Net-Zero buildings.
Tuan Louv
With over 18 years of experience, Tuan Louv, IIDA, LEED AP has honed his expertise in a diverse array of project types, including new construction, major residential additions, and significant interior renovations. His dedication to client collaboration is evident in his approach, where he works closely with clients to develop clear project goals and objectives. Tuan's proficiency in 3D modeling and visual communications ensures that he provides both understandable and technically precise documentation throughout the design development and project delivery phases.
Matthew Mo
With over 15 years of experience in residential design and construction, Matthew brings a wealth of expertise to every project. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley's architecture program, Matthew possesses a deep understanding of building codes and planning regulations. His extensive work with various local municipalities throughout the Bay Area and San Francisco has provided him with valuable insights and a strong track record of successful project approvals.
Heather Nelson
Heather Nelson, a Bay Area native and a San Francisco State University alumna, holds a Master's in Business Administration and has been a pivotal member of Mark Thomas Architects since joining in 2013. As our Controller, Heather is an integral part of helping our teams in areas of accounts receivable and payable, and overseeing our firm’s financial data and reporting.
